For one power utility facing a costly regulatory fix, Posi-Lock® solved the problem and saved millions.

Facing a very expensive and labor-intensive dilemma, a power utility needed to establish vegetation on the outside berms of its CCR basin. The company would need to import several hundred thousand cubic yards of soil and adhere to strict and ongoing maintenance and mowing regulations.

The utility discovered a highly effective, economical solution: Posi-Lock®. Installed in just a few weeks with the help of LSC’s installation team, and approved by the utility’s local regulatory agency, Posi-Lock® provided the erosion protection and vegetation control the company needed, while delivering substantial material and labor cost savings. In addition to saving the utility the hundreds of truckloads of soil and hundreds of hours of earthwork required to prep surfaces for seeding and vegetation — originally estimated to cost $5 million for the 7-acre site — the Posi-Lock® installation also eliminated the need for costly ongoing maintenance, which included a mandate that the vegetation could not exceed six inches in height.

The proof is in the pounding: With over 30 inches of rain pounding Posi-Lock® within 3 weeks of its installation, and an additional 60 inches hammering the power utility’s site over the course of a year, it remains in nearly perfect condition. Consequently, the company has ordered additional acreage at its site to be coated with Posi-Lock®, and a nearby site is implementing the same program.
